The best way to play it safe is to continue to do the things that others have done before. Often resulted in no break through.
No break through = no outstanding result = no visibility = no fame = no recognition = no promotion = no pay increment
Remember, every task that you are doing is an opportunity to shine in itself. Next time, when you are in charge of a project, ask yourself, do you want to be right or just be not wrong?
